The history of the Festival

About the Festival
The Jamaican Culture Association is the proud organizer behind this festival, which began as a small celebration in the summer of 2017. Since then, it has grown steadily each year, becoming a full-scale festival with a record attendance of nearly 3,000 visitors. From 2017 to 2023, the event was held at Lappis Beach in Stockholm. Starting in 2025, our new home will be Kanaanbadet.
Over the years, we’ve welcomed internationally renowned Jamaican artists such as Charly Black, Agent Sasco, Eek-A-Mouse, Queen Ifrica, Chi Ching Ching, Turbulence, Voicemail, G-Whizz, IQ, and many more. We’ve also proudly featured prominent local reggae and dancehall artists including Syster Sol, Essa Cham, Aurelia Dey, Leafnuts, Latin Kings with Dogge Doggelito, Million Stylez, DanJah, Etzia, and others.
The festival is a vibrant, full-day celebration featuring live performances from artists and DJs, professional dance shows, open-mic segments, and guest speakers exploring topics related to Jamaican culture.
For families and children, we offer a dedicated activity area with free bouncy castles, face painting, balloons, quizzes, and even a family-friendly lottery.
Since 2023, we’ve also hosted an official after-party at a central Stockholm nightclub, featuring international DJs and festival artists for an unforgettable evening experience.
Our mission is to celebrate and share Jamaican and broader Afro-Caribbean culture with the Swedish public. We aim to keep the event free or at a very low cost, ensuring that everyone, regardless of financial status, can enjoy this vibrant celebration of music, dance, language, food, and culture.
